Two academic staff members from Salahaddin University–Erbil (SUE)participated in the Fifth Conference on the Genocide of the Kurdish People, held at the University of Duhok on 28 and 29 October 2025. Assistant Professor Dr Walid Khalid Abdulkarim and Dr Nozad Ismail Hussein, both from the Department of Counselling and Educational Psychology at the College of Education, presented two distinct research papers addressing the impacts of genocide and conflict on Kurdish society.
Assistant Professor Dr Abdulkarim’s research explored the psychological condition and post-conflict recovery of Yezidi women who survived captivity under ISIS, while Dr Hussein examined the lived experiences of the families of Barzani victims affected by the Anfal campaign. The conference gathered a wide range of scholars and researchers dedicated to documenting genocidal crimes and preserving the historical memory of the Kurdish people.
SUE served as a principal academic partner in organising the conference, reaffirming its commitment to supporting academic discourse on genocide studies, human rights and collective trauma.
