Salahaddin University Students Engage in Global Dialogue 2024 on Sustainability with U.S. Peers
In the Fall 2024 Global Solutions Conversations Program, a cross-cultural virtual exchange organized in collaboration with Salahaddin University and the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), a group of English Department students from the College of Education at Salahaddin University-Erbil participated.
The program, which took place between October and November 2024, brought together binational teams of students from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), USA, and Salahaddin University-Erbil for six interactive dialogue sessions via Zoom. Through organized discussion and group study of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, the program sought to improve students' critical thinking, intercultural communication, and global citizenship abilities.
The program facilitated by Asst. Lect. Muhammad Aziz and Asst. Lect. Hero Ali from Salahaddin University, alongside Dr. Phronie Jackson from UDC, the sessions guided Kurdish and American students through the design thinking processto co-create sustainable ideas that address global and local challenges.
The program provided a powerful platform for young people to build meaningful international connections, expand their worldviews, and engage in constructive dialogue around sustainability and community-driven innovation. It also reinforced Salahaddin University’s commitment to fostering globally competent graduates who are ready to contribute to positive change.
