Salahaddin University Students Collaborate with U.S. Peers in Spring 2025 Global Sustainability Conversations
The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) and Salahaddin University collaborated to implement the Spring 2025 Global Solutions Conversations Program, a virtual exchange initiative in which a group of students from the English Department, College of Education at Salahaddin University-Erbil actively participated.
The program, which ran from February to March 2025, included six Zoom-based interactive binational dialogue sessions to promote intercultural understanding and improve their global citizenship and communication abilities, students from Salahaddin University-Erbil were paired with classmates from Miami Dade College District in Florida, USA. Using the design thinking process as a framework for innovation, participants worked in mixed-nationality teams throughout the program to investigate and jointly develop sustainable solutions in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. The sessions were facilitated by Asst. Lecturer Hero Ali Omer from Salahaddin University and Professor Benjamin L. Augustyn from Miami Dade College, who guided the binational teams through discussions, brainstorming sessions, and the development of community-driven ideas. This program not only empowered students to engage in meaningful global dialogue but also demonstrated Salahaddin University’s growing role in promoting international academic cooperation and sustainability-focused education.
