
Today, on 4 January 2025, a symposium on “New Approaches to Cancer in the Kurdistan Region” was held.
The event took place with the presence of Umed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, Asst. Prof. Dr Kamaran Younis M. Amin, the President of SUE, Prof. Dr Jawhar Fattah, Prof. Dr Hussein Saadi, the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Prof. Dr Sharif Mouloud Sharif, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, and Asst. Prof. Dr Mazin Abdulkhaleq, the Dean of the College of Education, along with department heads and faculty members.
At the beginning of the symposium, the President of SUE delivered a speech, saying, "We all know that cancer is one of the deadliest diseases worldwide, with varying levels of prevalence. Its treatment is costly, and there are multiple factors leading to its occurrence."
He emphasised the environmental impact on cancer cases and its negative effects on public health, adding, "At Salahaddin University, we are committed to organising conferences and symposiums on social issues, aiming to find solutions."
Furthermore, he announced the formation of an expert team working on organising a scientific conference on environmental pollution in the Kurdistan Region, its causes, and possible solutions. He highlighted the importance of investigating whether the pollution in Erbil is caused by industrial waste or other factors.
He expressed his desire to be actively involved in the conference discussions, emphasising that the preparatory work provides a clear framework and allows experts to present all causes and solutions before referring them to the relevant authorities.
Finally, he extended his gratitude to the organising team and conference coordinators for their efforts.
