On 14 April 2025, Dr Kamaran Younis, President of Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE), accompanied by Dr Awara Ibrahim, Director of International Relations, visited the Italian Consulate in Erbil. The visit was made to extend congratulations and best wishes to Mr Tommaso Sansone on his recent appointment as the Consul General of Italy in the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting, the President wished the new Consul success in his new role and highlighted the valuable support provided by Italy in facilitating visa procedures for SUE researchers and postgraduate students intending to study in Italy.
Dr Kamaran Younis also proposed the establishment of an Italian language department at Salahaddin University-Erbil as a joint academic initiative, hoping for the support of the new Consul. Both parties welcomed the idea and agreed to coordinate on this project.
At the end of the visit, the President of Salahaddin University formally invited the Italian Consul General to visit the university and explore potential collaborative projects.
