In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Dear Yazidi students, lecturers, and staff at Salahaddin University-Erbil,
On the occasion of the Yazidi New Year, known as Charshema Sor, I extend my warmest congratulations to you all. Charshema Sor is one of the most sacred and traditional feasts celebrated by the Yazidi community, taking place annually on the third Wednesday of April (Nisan in the Kurdish calendar).
The Yazidis have their own sacred temple, Lalish, which is considered the holiest site for Yazidis and holds great cultural and religious significance. Historical sources indicate that the reason this festival is celebrated on this specific date is that it commemorates the moment when the angel Melek Tawus descended to Earth.
