From November 5-9, 2024, the Falling Walls Science Summit took place in Berlin, bringing together hundreds of young innovators worldwide. Among them were three Kurdish innovators - Lava Mohammed, Ahmed Hadi, and Harun Younis - who presented their innovative ideas at this prestigious global gathering.
In a notable achievement, a Kurdish participant from Erbil emerged victorious in a competition among 74 different labs. Additionally, among winners representing 58 different countries, one was from Erbil, Kurdistan Region.
Salahaddin University, as the sole scientific partner of Falling Walls Lab Erbil in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, organized the Falling Walls Lab Erbil event on September 5, 2024, at the HITEX Conference Hall during the Erbil International Exhibition. The event, co-organized with Open Space Academy, saw a scientific committee select 16 innovative ideas for presentation from a total of 60 submissions received from across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Following the competition, first, second, and third place winners were announced, earning these innovators the valuable opportunity to participate in the global Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin, Germany, where they could present their ideas on an international stage.
This year's Science Summit attracted more than 2,400 innovators from 104 countries, representing over 300 universities and different scientific institutions. Participants showcased their scientific innovations and impactful initiatives across various fields, demonstrating the global reach and significance of this international gathering.
