A symposium entitled Chemical Safety and Security in University Laboratories in the Kurdistan Region: Challenges and Solutions will be held on Monday, 16 February 2026, at the College of Science, Conference Hall, Department of Mathematics.
Registration will take place on the same day at 9:30 am.
The symposium addresses the growing importance of chemical safety in university laboratories across the Kurdistan Region. With the increasing number of laboratories and laboratory personnel, the risks associated with chemical safety continue to rise, requiring greater attention and structured solutions.
The symposium aims to enhance chemical safety standards in university laboratories in order to protect staff, the environment and the wider community through:
1. Training laboratory personnel in chemical safety practices
2. Reviewing and updating laboratory operational procedures
3. Providing appropriate chemical safety equipment
4. Ensuring continuous laboratory monitoring
5. Strengthening cooperation with chemical safety organisations
The event is open to academic staff, health and safety committees at college and directorate levels, centre representatives, lecturers, students and administrative employees.

Colonel Sabah Wali Qadir, Head of the CBRN Unit, Erbil Civil Defence Directorate — The Role of the CBRN Team in Reducing Damage During Incidents
Assoc Prof Dr Sanger Salih Ahmed, College of Science — Risk Assessment of Chemical Safety in Laboratories
The panel will be moderated by Mr Arian Hussein Dzai, Director of the Health and Safety Directorate at Salahaddin University (SUE).
The symposium will conclude with open discussion, recommendations and proposed action points.
