
An international scientific conference held on thoughts, works and contributions of Aziz Gardi
On 5 June 2024, in the presence of Prof. Dr Kamaran Younis M. Amin, President of Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE), Arian Salahaddin, Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Salar Osman, M. Fars, representative of Erbil Provincial Organization Bureau and M. Hazhar Osman, Branch Administrator and Head of Aso Branch, University Council Members, Teachers and Employees, an international scientific conference on Aziz Gardi's Thoughts, Products and Inventions was held.
The two-day conference is organized in collaboration with the Kurdish departments of SUE. At the beginning of the conference, Prof. Dr Mazgin Abdulrahman Chali, Dean of the College of Baisc Education, delivered a speech and pointed out the role and position of Aziz Gardi in the field of writing and serving the Kurdish language.
In another part of his speech, he thanked all the teachers who have prepared for the organization of this conference in the past.
Aziz Ahmad Abdullah, also known as Aziz Gardi ( 1947– 2022) was a Kurdish writer and translator who translated many world masterpieces into Central Kurdish. He graduated from the Department of French at Baghdad University and received his master's and doctoral degrees in 1994 and 1999.
In addition to French, Aziz Gardi knew English, Arabic, Persian and different Kurdish dialects. He has translated a number of world literary masterpieces including Oriana Fallaci's My Dagestan, Dante's The Divine Comedy, and the works of Tolstoy.
On June 6, 2022, Aziz Gardi passed away in Erbil.
