From November 5 to 9, 2024, the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin brought together hundreds of young innovators from around the globe. Among the participants were three exceptional young Kurdish innovators: Lava Mohammed, Ahmad Hadi, and Harun Younis, who showcased their groundbreaking ideas and inventions on this prestigious international stage.
During the competition, a Kurdish participant from Erbil achieved a remarkable victory, standing out among 74 Labs worldwide. Additionally, among the winners representing 58 different countries, one was proudly from Erbil, demonstrating the innovative spirit and talent of the Kurdistan Region.
CDC at Salahaddin University-Erbil, as the sole scientific partner of Falling Walls Lab Erbil in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, played a pivotal role in facilitating this achievement. On September 5, 2024, the Falling Walls Lab Erbil event was held at the Hightex Conference Hall in collaboration with the Open Space Academy. Dubbed a "barrier removal activity," the event was part of the Erbil International Exhibition. Out of 60 ideas submitted by participants from across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the top three winners were selected to represent the region at the global summit in Berlin.
This year’s Falling Walls Science Summit hosted over 2,400 innovators from 104 countries, representing more than 300 universities and scientific institutions. Participants showcased groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs and impactful initiatives in various disciplines, highlighting the global commitment to innovation and collaboration.
The participation of Kurdish innovators in this world-class event underscores the region’s growing contributions to the global scientific community, bolstered by the support of institutions like Salahaddin University-Erbil.
