
With the presence of Dr Saywan Barzani, Iraqi Ambassador in the Netherlands, SPARK organisation held an academic conference on the refugee students who have sought shelter in KRG to complete their studies due to ISIS offensive on their hometowns and universities. KRG is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious region which has welcomed the refugee students to pursue their studies.
In the conference, Dr Ahmed Dezaye participated in two panels. In the first panel, he shed light on SU’s plan for the programme of receiving the students and facilitating their stay in KRG.
For the continuation of the programme, SU president sought help from SPARK because KRG is undergoing a serious economic crisis.
In the panel, Fethi Ali Moursi, Counselor in the Ministry of Industry of KRG, participated and stated that the private sector and the government should help the refugee students with small business projects.
In the second panel, SU president and Gazi Antab University President participated. They discussed the role of education and higher education process. They also talked about the main impediments the universities in Iraq and Syria face due to the offensive of ISIS. Therefore, they deemed it necessary for the universities and organisations worldwide to support the refugee students in KRG.
