The president of the University Dr. Ahmed Anwer Dezaye along with a delegation of the universities in Kurdistan consisting of President of Zakho University Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jameel, President of Lebanese French University Dr. Mohammad Sadiq Mohammad, President of Jihan University Dr. Fouad Mawlud Shareef, President of Kirkuk University Dr. Abbas Hassan, and a number of other dignitaries participated in the 49th Session of the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities which was hosted in the United Arab Emirates University in the city of Al Ein, and 150 university presidents attended the conference. It is worth mentioning that the conference is held in a different country every year and it lasts for two days.
In 2013, Salahaddin University had the privilege of hosting the 46th session of the conference which was regarded as successful. Moreover, a considerable number of Iraqi universities and other universities were accepted as new members. The role of the Iraqi universities, particularly the universities in the Kurdistan region, was highly appreciated. Despite the fight against ISIS and the financial crisis in the region, Kurdistan universities have accommodated Anbar University and Mosul University, after they fled their places, in order for the education continues. Further than that, 500 Syrian students are offered higher education at the universities in Kurdistan.
