Salahaddin University Students Collaborate with U.S. Peers in Global Sustainability Challenge 2024
A dynamic group of students from Salahaddin University-Erbil has successfully completed the Fall 2024 Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge, a prestigious international program designed to foster sustainable innovation through binational collaboration.
Over the course of nine weeks (October–December 2024), students participated virtually via platforms such as Zoom and Slack, engaging with American peers to co-create solutions addressing global sustainability challenges. The program was jointly organized by Salahaddin University and the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), offering participants a unique opportunity to engage in intercultural teamwork and real-world problem-solving.
Guided by Asst. Lect. Muhammad Aziz from the College of Education at Salahaddin University and Ms. Veronica Johnson from Cambridge College of Healthcare and Technology (USA), the binational team comprising both Kurdish and American students collaborated on the theme of transportation. Their work explored innovative approaches to solving transportation-related issues within the framework of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The challenge culminated in the development of a prototype and the submission of a video pitch and business concept, demonstrating the team’s commitment to creating meaningful, community-driven solutions. This achievement highlights Salahaddin University’s growing role in promoting global citizenship, academic excellence, and sustainable development through international partnerships.
