
INTENSIVE COURSE ON
Group theory and applications
February 10-13, 2025

This 12-hour course introduces the fundamentals of group theory and two of its striking applications: a classical counting formula for objects with many symmetries, and the RSA cryptosystem, which is based on the hardness of factoring large integers into primes. The course combines lectures and hands-on tutorials based on parts of the Leiden Algebra course notes.
The course will be taught by Prof. Peter Stevenhagen from the Universiteit Leiden (Netherlands), in collaboration with Prof. Francesco Pappalardi from Università Roma Tre (Italy) and Dr. Andam Mustafa (SUE). It welcomes bachelor students of mathematics from the College of Science of Salahaddin University Erbil.
Schedule: lecture 10.30am—12.30pm, tutorial 1.30pm—2.30pm on Monday—Thursday.
ئەم خولە ١٢ کاتژمێرییە بنەماکانی تیۆری گروپ و دوو لە بەکارهێنانە سەرنجڕاکێشەکانی دەناسێنێت: فۆرمولەی ژماردن بۆ ئەو شتانەی کە زۆر سیمیترییان هەیە، و سیستەمی کریپتۆسیستەمی RSA کە لەسەر بنەمای سەختی شیتەڵکردنی ژمارە تەواوە گەورەکانە بۆ کۆڵکە سەرەکیەکانی. ئەو زنجیرە سیمینارە پێکاتووە لە دوو بەش: بەشی تیۆری و بەشی گفتوگۆ و جێبەجێکردن و گشت بابەتەکانی ئەو کۆرسە لە پەرتوکی Leiden Algebra course notes وەرگیراوە.
