On 17 December 2015, in all the colleges of Salahaddin University, Kurdistan Flag Day was celebrated, with the presence of assistant professor Dr. Ahmed Anwer Dezaye the president of Salahaddin University, the directors and the university staff. In a unique ceremony, Kurdistan Flag Day was valued. After hoisting the Kurdistan flag, the president of Salahaddin University gave his speech on this special occasion. He expressed his congratulations to the partakers and mentioned the great role of our Peshmarga in the battlefront. He also added that the university’s role in continuing education is no less important in protecting Kurdistan.

The president also expressed his deep thanks to the lecturers and the staff as Salahaddin University was the pioneer of Kurdistan universities in Kurdistan region national process. It is worth mentioning that Kurdistan Flag Day goes back to 17th Dec. 1945 (2645 A.H.). In which the ceremony was in the presence of Peshawa Qazi Muhammed and Mala Mustafa Barzani (the Kurdish leader) and the leader of revolutions in all the parts Kurdistan.

The flag was raised at 10 a.m. in Chwar Chra Yard over the shoulder of the martyr Karimi Nazimi in front of the audience on the top of the building which proudly exists in the present time. After forming the Kurdish government, on the order number 26 on 11/11/1999, Kurdistan parliament law number 14/1999, the law of Kurdistan Flag Day. After this law, according to order number 48 on 19/6/2009, it has been resolved that 17th Dec. of every year will be Kurdistan Flag Day.
