Salahaddin University and Zahawi Center in the An International Conference
In collaboration with Zahawi Center, Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) carried out a conference titled Text and Heritage: Reading and Revising in the Social and Cultural Center of SUE which a large number of lecturers, researchers and students attended.
Questions relevant to religious scriptures and their reading and interpretation were analyzed in a number of academic sessions.
At the beginning of the conference, SUE president delivered a speech in which he highlighted the aim of the conference which was fighting extremism.
He also mentioned that the extremist groups like Boko Haram, al-Qaida, and ISIS came into existence as a result of their misinterpretation of the religious scriptures. Therefore, serious and rigorous revision should be made into the texts. Through this conference we should be determined to provide a contemporary reading of the scripture since the proliferation of the precious extremism has been encouraged by the inactivity of the religious authorities.
Later, the Head of Zahawi Centre Dr Sabah Berzinji said that this conference aims to provide an answer to the roots of radicalism, to treat the texts with logic, and to tell the truth from the false.
