It is worth mentioning that Asst. Prof. Dr Kamaran Younis Mohammed Amin, President of Salahaddin University-Erbil, delivered a speech and he welcomed the attendees to the project of "building resistance to strengthen food security in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region."
This project is the construction of a field on an area of 26 acres of land using modern farming methods by Salahaddin University-Erbil, which was implemented by Rwanga Foundation in coordination with WFP within the framework of the environmental sector on modern farming methods.
This project includes planting 5000 trees, which are as follows:
400 fig trees
630 Halabja pomegranate trees
630 Spanish olive trees
1700 lemon and orange trees
1640 pine trees
The trees are of good quality, and an expert team from the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences has identified the types and quality of trees for planting.
The project was implemented in coordination with the World Food Program and with financial support from the German government.
The president said, "I am pleased and honoured to meet with you on this important and unique project. This project will be one of the most important projects for SUE and the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences."
The coordination of SUE and Rwanga Foundation for this project will continue and it will have considerable benefits.
It is worth mentioning, this project is in line with the agenda of the Kurdistan Regional Government because the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government has emphasized the agricultural sector and food security since taking office in the ninth cabinet.
Dr Kamaran also said. "I would like to point out that this project is a scientific laboratory and it will meet the needs of bachelor's, master's and doctoral students to conduct their practical research."
Agriculture and food security are considered to be major factors in the country's economic growth, but they also have a positive impact on the welfare of the nation.
The president hoped that the promotion of tree planting and food security will become a reason for trade and export of domestic products to neighbouring countries, which will raise the standard of living of members of society and increase welfare.
