Under the supervision of Dr Ahmed Dezaye, SU president, SU presidency and College of Arts arranged an appropriate ceremony to honour a Kurdistan geographer Asst. Prof. Dr Abdullah Ghaffur in the Cultural and Social Centre of SU.
In the ceremony, SU president shed light on the history of the university in cultivating hundreds of knowledgeable figures and academics who have had an impact on the society and have been the honour of their home country. Dr Ghaffur had been one of the renowned figures who has written 37 books about the geography of Kurdistan in different languages including Kurdish, Arabic, Russian and Turkish.
Later, Mohammed Kaka Sur, Dean of College of Arts, in a speech expressed his delight for the recognition award and he highlighted the patriotic spirit and endeavour of Dr Ghaffur who has devoted all life as a field researcher to an honourable cause.
Likewise, Head of Geography Department, Dr Tariq commended Dr Ghaffur’s service offered to his nation through his research about the Kurdistan geography. Future generation can draw on what Dr Ghaffur has produced.
Following that, Dr. Najim Alwany recited a poem, a tribute to Dr Abdullah. Then Ari Nanakali in a speech praised the Dr Abullah’s endeavour and expressed thanks to SU president for having undertaken such an initiative.
Finally, SU president honoured Dr Ghaffur with the recognition award.
