Ms. Stefania Giannini, the Italian Minister of Higher Education, received Dr. Ahmed Anwar Dezaye, the President of Salahaddin University. The meeting was attended by Dr. Saiwan Barzani
the Iraqi Ambassador to Italy and Dr. Manahil Al-Nawas, the Iraqi Cultural Advisor in Italy.
In the meeting they highlighted the academic relations between the Italian universities and the Kurdistan universities in general and Salahaddin University in particular. They also assessed the agreement signed last year between Salahaddin University and Perugia University, when Ms. Giannini was president of the Perugia University and visited Kurdistan to sign the agreement with Salahaddin University.
Another important topic of discussion was timely opening of the Italian Language Department in Salahaddin University or to offer Italian Language courses in Salahaddin University's Language Center, in cooperation with Perugia University.
The Minister supported the recent agreement of Salahaddin University with Cagliari University in relation to opening petrochemical department in Salahaddin University; after recent development in refinery work and electricity production that can benefit from using the waste of these refineries as environmentally friendly power source.
Dr. Saiwan Barzani, the Iraqi Ambassador to Italy expressed his support for any joint project between Salahaddin University and the Italian universities.
At the end of the meeting Salahaddin University gift was presented to Ms. Stefania Giannini as acknowledgement of his long friendship with Salahaddin University and Kurdistan Region.
