
2nd International Archaeological Scientific Conference In Erbil
On 8th May 2018, with the presence of Nawzad Hadi, Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) president Ahmed Dezaye, representative of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Karim Salih Abdul, university lecturers, and local and overseas researchers, Archaeology Department in College of Arts at SUE in coordination with Erbil Governorate held the second scientific conference titled Archaeology and Folklore in Erbil.
At the start of the conference, Erbil governor said: “Erbil is the birthplace of civilisations and it is rich for its archaeology and old civilisation. Erbil, now the capital of the Kurdistan Region, has its citadel considered one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Therefore, it is recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO. We have mutual undertakings with Foreign Ministry of USA to preserve the identity of the city and promote tourism in the city.”;
SUE president also reiterated the importance of the city archaeologically. He encouraged researchers to conduct research regarding the archaeology of the city. He hoped that the conference will have a positive impact.
Dr Karim Salih and the head of Archaeology Department Dr Zidan Bradosti spoke about the importance of archaeology and its history in the city. They hoped that these conferences will bring attention to the preserved archaeology in Erbil.
Later, the researchers presented their various research projects in different panels.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second international conference about archaeology arranged by SUE mutually with French IFPO and Finnish FINE organisations.
