Under the supervision of SUE president Dr Ahmed Anwar Dezaye and the presence of Erbil Governor Newzad Hadi, 2nd Branch of PDK Ahmed Kani and the president of Polytechnic University, SUE and the Technical Institute for Higher Education Studies in Paris arranged an international conference titled “The History of Middle Ages Coins in the Middle East”. With the presence of delegations of international universities from six different countries, the conference went underway.
In the beginning of the conference, SUE president delivered a speech about the importance of archaeology at SUE and the initiatives they have taken towards developing archaeological projects. The topic of the conference was evidence of such an attempt.
In a second speech, the Erbil governor shed light on the civilisation in the area and commended the conference as worthy of attention. He also discussed the history and archaeology in Erbil and the archaeological sites which require protection. On the other hand, Mulla Awat, General Director of Archaeology, showed willingness for supporting the conference.
Following that, John Michael delivered the speech of the French delegate. He mentioned that Kurdistan Region is a suitable area for archaeological findings.
It is worth mentioning that the conference started on 4th April, 2017, and it will last for two more days. The conference has been arranged by Archaeology Department of SUE. It consists of six panels in which a number of research projects will be presented.
