Invited by Yüzüncü Yıl University in Van, Turkey, a delegation of SUE participated in a symposium which was arranged as a part of academic collaborations between Turkey and Kurdistan Region universities.
In the beginning of the symposium, the Mayor of Van welcomed the guest delegation warmly and mentioned the different aspects of the relationship between Kurdistan Region and Turkey. He congratulated the universities on arranging this event to help serve the higher education.
Also, the representative of the Higher Education Council in Turkey (YOK) extended thanks to Turkish universities and he supported the development of such relations.
Later, Dr Ahmed Dezye representing KRG universities which were around 14 in total delivered a speech in which he emphasised fostering the relationship between Kurdish and Turkish Universities. He provided the audience with a brief account of higher education state in KRG. He also explained the details of the academic relations between the universities in Turkey and KRG.
In the end, SUE gifts were presented to the Mayor of Van, the representative of YOK and the presidents of Turkish universities. It was resolved the next year’s symposium will be held in Erbil and hosted by SUE. Also, the Kurdish and Turkish university partner’s group was established and SUE president Dr Ahmed Dezaye and president of Erzurum Technical University Prof. Dr Muammar Yaylali were elected as presidents.
