Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns on Earth. These changes may be natural, such as those resulting from changes in the solar cycle, but today they are mainly linked to human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) that increase greenhouse gas emissions, leading to a rise in global temperatures.
Impact on education and humans:
1. On education:
• Changing educational curricula: The need to introduce concepts of sustainability and environmental awareness into school curricula.
• Disrupting the educational process: Natural disasters such as floods and droughts may lead to school closures and student displacement.
• Impact on students' mental health: Anxiety about the environmental future may affect concentration and academic achievement.
2. On humans:
Health: Increase in climate-related diseases, such as heatstroke and water-borne or insect-borne diseases.
• Food and water security: The impact of droughts or floods on agriculture and water supplies.
• Displacement and migration: People are forced to migrate from areas affected by natural disasters.
• Economic impact: Losses to property and infrastructure, affecting the local and global economy.
