On Thursday 12/01/2017, Dr Ahmed Anwar Dezaye, SU president, welcomed a delegate of Japanese Embassy in Baghdad consisting of the Vice-Consul and the Secretary General of the Embassy accompanied by the Iraqi MP Sirwan Sirini.
In the meeting, the university president expressed pleasure because of opening Japanese Council in Erbil. He wished that this will bring about a partnership between the KRG universities, particularly SU, with the universities in Japan.
Also in the meeting, the guest delegate suggested that a number of Japanese courses could be opened at SU. In return, SU emphasised that with the help of the Embassy, the council and the Japanese organisations, a Japanese language department could be opened so that there will be a closer and better understanding of Japanese culture. He also affirmed that SU will support the initiative.
It is worth mentioning that the Japanese Council was opened in Erbil on 11 January 2017. From 12 January 2017 onwards, the Council has conducted a number of meetings in order to be aware of the situation in the country.
