Literary genres are conventional categories that classify literary works based on shared formal features, stylistic conventions, and structural patterns. Major divisions include poetry, prose, and drama, with numerous subdivisions (e.g., epic, lyric, novel, tragedy). The disruption of traditional literary genres represents a pivotal shift in scholarship, moving away from rigid classification toward the analysis of formal hybridity. By intentionally subverting established conventions, a text creates a fluid identity that resists simple categorization, requiring critics to examine how it negotiates its own unique structural and aesthetic boundaries. Divided into two panels, this workshop explores the shifting landscape of literary forms. The first panel, led by Prof. Dr. Karzan Mohsen Qadir, interrogates genre classification and the destabilization of textual identities in modern writing. Following this, Prof. Dr. Jalal Anwar Saeed explores the theoretical challenges posed by genre mixing and the determination of 'generic identity' from the perspective of New Criticism. The workshop seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice, offering a rigorous analysis of how contemporary criticism engages with the fluid nature of modern literature.
