AVC E-learning Center activities: Academic Year 2017/2018
1. Training Course on Cloud Computing in Education
Twenty three Professors (holding MSc and PhD) participated in the training course program at AVC E-learning Center for the period of two days (9-10/1/2018). The participants’ teaching areas spanned a wide array of subjects ranging from Computer Technology, Math, Physics and Chemistry, to Human Anatomy, Biology, Environmental Science, and even Spanish. Participants received 8 hours of professional development credit. The program was structured into two parts. The first part was a PPT presentation on introduction on Cloud computing in general by the director of the AVC e-learning Center and the second part by Miss Suzan Aziz on the procedures of how to create a word cloud computing during the period of our training. The 3P was focused on several instructional topics, including (a) Overview of Cloud Services, (b) Storing and Sharing Data in the Cloud, (c) Clouds in Education and Collaboration in and out of the Classroom.
2. Training Course on Animation Technology in Education
Forty two Professors (holding MSc and PhD) participated in the training course program titled animation technology in education for the period of three days (29-31/1/2018). The participants’ teaching areas spanned a wide array of subjects ranging from Computer Technology, Math, Physics and Chemistry, to Human Anatomy, Biology, and Environmental Science. Participants received 6 hours of basics and general aspects on animation background. The program was structured into two parts. The first part was on Power point presentation on introduction in general animation technology by the director of AVC e-learning Center Dr. Ismail Musa Murad and the second part was hold by assistant lecturer Mr. Weshyar Mohammed who works at the institute of art in ministry of education- Erbil, on the procedures of how to create an animation via basic procedure computing during the period of our training. The 3P was focused on several instructional topics, including (a) Overview of Animation Services, (b), (c) Animation in Education and Collaboration in and out of the Classroom, while the other part was focused on practical side on how to create a simple animation character in 2D way along with some move on animation technology in education.
3. Prezi Software Technology
The word Prezi is the short form of "presentation" in Hungarian. Prezi is an interactive non-linear alternative to power point and other presentation software. Its cloud computing which means its web based with all information stored in the cloud and accessible from any computer with internet access. Prezi is a presentation tool that can be used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs such as 3Ps. Three day training was hold from (6-8/3/2018) free of charge to participants (holding MSc and PhD) in different Colleges at our SU, in venues within main regional e- learning center catering for (102) participants. See attached file for more information
The workshops will:
- Establish principles of effective ‘design for learning’, based on Prezi software of the e-learning and pedagogy program
- Introduce participants to the use of planning and evaluation new tools
- Discuss the usability of these materials, including ways in which they could be adapted for different interests for teaching method in parallel with power point presentation
- Share ideas for embedding the materials in participants of practice and in their own contexts of activity
4. Training for the Trainers ( arranged by Continuing Education )
On 7th January 2018 within the period of two days more than 125 participants (postgraduate MSc and PhD students) participated in the training course on E-learning process at AVC E-learning Center. In this course they were trained on how to change the traditional lecture to modern one (E-lecture) along with theoretical and practical procedure on the process on general scientific and electronic information on virtual campus on E-learning process. Encouraging the professors for using Webinar Methods for their seminars for sharing with the participants. To make comprehensive guide in e-learning and all related materials to be distributed to all students and to renew and develop scientific teaching methods for cyber lessons and to follow new technology to create a cyber teacher in the future. They also provide sample video and virtual lab on e-learning. Also a comprehensive guide on e-learning and related web to be distributed to all students have been explained to them via e-learning style and process, in order to encourage professors for using webinar methods for seminar and sharing with participant. In this case we made a new step to modern class training, as we know sooner or later traditional class training will die. So we have to move a way from traditional models of learning to student centered approach.
5. Training Workshop on “Development of Online E-Courses”
Referred to the MOU signed between our university and university of Ishik working on to establish E-learning Practical Workshop Program for part of their staff in different colleges in order to take benefit from our experience on E-courses to support them for a period from 20 - 21 May 2018 and 27 - 28 May 2018 in order to open a unit on E-learning Center at their University.
6. Training Course on Animation Technology
The 2nd Training Course titled Animation Technology in Education has been hold at our AVC E-learning Center for six SUE Colleges (College of Fine Art, Languages, Engineering, Law and Political Science, Islamic Science, Physical Education & Sport Science ) for the period of three days starting 23 – 25/10/2018.
The main purpose of the second training course on using animation technology in education and academics is to fulfill a cognitive function. Animations are intended to support students’ cognitive processes that ultimately result in them understanding the subject matter. Animation can be used to make very exciting and fun animations into which education and training can easily be incorporated. Instructors can also use animation to demonstrate things and concepts visually exactly how they want to since they have control of every aspect of the animation, so our AVC e-learning at SU intend to achieve for three days a general introduction on "Animation technology in Education" in cooperation with Institute of art in Erbil for the professors in our university due to that the animation can be an affective learning tool that attracts attention, engages the learner, and sustains motivation aspect. Such affective animation training is not focused on facilitating comprehension of any academic subject matter itself and often portrays activities that are interactive, creative, fun and motivational. Young students are fascinated by animation and animated stories and they enjoy the opportunity to create their own. The creative potential of animation is enormous, and integrating animation activities into the universities and school curriculum offers the possibility of tapping this potential to meet a range of educational objectives.
Benefits of animation as an effective learning tool
- Emphasizes development of students’ skills and understanding of creating and responding
- Enables students to apply Imagination & Rational Thinking
- Enables students to invent and explore multiple solutions to a problem
- Enables students to understand the value of reflection and critical judgment in creative work
- Fosters positive attitudes toward Art & Animation
- Introduces career possibilities
