Horticulture Department

Horticulture Department established in 2008 which awards BSc, MSc and PhD degrees. The Graduates of the department will be familiar with various subjects within Agricultural Sciences including; Fruit, Vegetables, Botany, Principle of Horticulture, Agricultural Extension, Landscape design, Organic Agriculture, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Plant Physiology, Genetics, Breeding, Growing and Propagating plants through conventional and Tissue Culture techniques with establishing nurseries. Additionally, there are special cares to Apiculture and honey bee diseases with diagnosing the diseases using scientific treatments.

Every year, final year students and academic staffs undertake many scientific research and projects in various majors depending on the specialization of the staffs using laboratories in the department and research center in Grdarasha field. Fourth stage students usually obtain adequate information on carrying out scientific projects, writing academic reports and assignments. Moreover, students graduate with an excellent knowledge theoretically and practically and can rely on themselves to conducts a research using different methods. These researches and projects play a great role in the development of private sectors and country's economy.

The department laboratories are categorized into two main groups based on the studied subjects:

 Laboratories within the department building include:

  • Lab (2): uses for practical lectures, for instance, Plant physiology, genetics and breeding.
  • Lab (25): uses for plant tissue culture.
  • Laboratories within the Grdarasha field: usually use for practical lectures of ornamental plants, vegetables, fruit, organic agriculture plant propagation, nurseries and landscape design.

    In addition to the labs, Grdarasha field provides:

  •    Land for performing agricultural operations
  •    Plant Nurseries for ornamental flowers, potted plants shrubs and trees.
  •    Protect houses including plastic houses to produce vegetable crops.
