Under the understanding Memorandum(MOU) between Salahadin University and University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) of split-site programme , Mrs.Ilham Khalid Ibrahim has been accepted as a phD student in physical Department Education College at a project ' Radiation Protection From Medical Radiation" under the supervising Ass.prof.Dr.Edrees Harki  Salahadin university and Professor Dr.Wan MuhamadSaridan Wan Hassan (UTM).

The student started his study at 15th September 2013 , she traveled to UTM to start a course of Radiation Protection and Statistical analysis as well as collected data.

The student in planning (now) to collect the instrument for measuring Dose of Radiation and collect other data from Erbil Hospitals.

Under the Understanding Memorandum (MoU) between SUH and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) of split-site programme, the student Kasim Fawzy Ahmed (SUH) has been accepted as a PhD student at a Project Title of (Role of Metallic Nano-Particles on Thermal, Structural and Spectroscopic Prosperities of Rare Earth Co-Doped ZINC Tellurite Glass) under the supervising of Asst. Prof. Dr. Saeed Omer Ibrahim (SUH) and Professor Dr. Md Rahim Sahar (UTM).

The student started his study at October 2013. At 23/01/2015 he travelled to UTM to starts his practical work by using there Laboratories and mix with their PhD student to collect modern and up-to-date information and experience.

The student in planning (now) to publish two papers. The first one in a high compact factor journal and the second one in the 5th International Conference on Solid State Science and Technology (ICSSST 2015) which is an annual conference envisioned as a platform for knowledge sharing.

With the spread of English language as a world language, teaching English language programs  and textbooks are in need to be modified and  developed in order to achieve their goals and aims successfully  and to satisfy the needs of the students .The key feature of texts and discourse samples is the authentic teaching materials .The terms authenticity and authentic are usually used to identify the oral and written language samples and also  determine the naturalness of form ,and the appropriateness of cultural and situational contexts.(Rogers&Medly,1988). The schools of the Kurdistan region have witnessed the implementation of the new program “Sunrise” since 2005.The development and modification of a curriculum needs three important  phases : - 1- designing and planning              2-  implementation or application and 3- the evaluation of the curriculum. This study is designed to assess authenticity of the teaching materials and classroom daily tasks and activities .The content of any program for TEL also should be assessed to examine the capacity to acquire general language skills of the learners and promote the communicative competence which enables them to use the language appropriately (Aitchison, 1999).Communicative competence in English is the primary goal of the Sunrise program. At basic level this includes a development of the student’s ability to comprehend and produce written and spoken English accurately and fluently in the communicative context to foster the ability to use English in social contexts in culturally appropriate ways .This ability is another component of communicative competence which is called socio-cultural competency. (Gebhard, 2009).

Transferring Staphylokinse (sak) Gene to a non -Pathogenic Bacterium and Assessment its Properties in Vivo and in Vitro

Staphylokinase is one of the plasminogen activators produced by certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus. In contrast to eukaryotic plasminogen activators such as urokinase and tissue plasminogen activator, staphylokinase has no detectable proteolytic activity. It is considered like streptokinase  to  form  first  a  stoichiometric  complex  with plasminogen  or plasmin,  which  processes  free  plasminogen to  make  an active  enzyme plasmin.  Such a primary activation mechanism of plasminogen without proteolyticcleavage is a unique feature of these two proteins.

Outline of the Project

This project investigates the activation of staphylokinase as fibrinolytic agent and uses it to resolve the cardiovascular diseases,

  •        Isolation and identification (depending on morphological, cultural features and a series of biochemical tests) of S. aureus from different sources.
  •        Investigation the antibiotic sensitivity of the isolates against pure antibiotics.
  •         Investigation of staphylokinase production in identified isolates.
  •        Extraction of S. aureus genome and identificationS. aureus genetically through detection some genes related to this bacterium.
  •        Amplification of sak gene (staphylokinase gene).
  • All above experiments were done

  •        Cloning Process (current experiment):
  •     Digestion of PCR product (sak gene), then ligation the digested sak gene with linearized vector.

        Inserting the recombinant vector to another favorable bacterium (E. coli).

     Note: In addition to other experiments will be done in University of Malaya (Malaysia).

    STRUCTURAL AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OFSm3+-DOPED SODIUM-TELLURITE GLASSES IN THE PRESENCE OF GOLD NANOPARTICLES

       The General Objectives is to investigate through spectroscopic means the structural and optical properties of gold nanoparticles embedded samarium doped tellurite glasses for understanding themechanism of luminescence and absorption.The metallic nanoparticles (NPs) embedded rare earth (RE) doped glasses received great attention due to their excellent third-order nonlinear optical performance and enhanced absorption through surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) suitable for highly efficient solar cells. Recently, lightenergy up-conversion property of such nonlinear optical glasses stimulated much interest because of theirprospective use in biological labeling and solar near infraredconcentration for photovoltaic exploitation.The relevance of the present study relates to the solving of problems and the needs of technology to prepare better and efficient material for various applications. This study is very important for fundamental understanding of structural, optical and electronic properties in materials science. It is hoped that the information generated through these studies will be highly useful to science and/or community. We hope that our detail research methodology can make qualitative as well as quantitative predictions regarding the unusual and enhanced optical behavior in these materials.

    Molecular studies on Azotobacter, Rhizobium and   Bacillus megatheriumvarphosphaticum  and employ as biofertilizers

    Outline of the Project

  •        This project investigates the   isolation & identification of Azotobacterspp, Rhizobium spp. and Bacillusmegaterium from the soil,
  •        and determine the ability of these isolate for nitrogen fixation and solubilizing phosphors in the soil
  •        Using classical and molecular approach, and ability to transfer nod genes which are located on plasmid DNAto isolated Azotobacter, then solubilizing phosphorus genes from Bacilliusmegaterium to transferment cells of Azotobacter , then evaluate the ability of transfermentAzotobacter to fixing atmospheric nitrogen and solubilize phosphorus in the soil .

    Morphological, Biochemical and Physiological Indices for Drought Tolerance in Bread Wheat Cultivars

    The object is to study the wheat cultivars in kurdistan region for various morpho-physiological traits associated with drought tolerance, finding out the variation in various physiological, biophysical and biochemical parameters among wheatcultivars and their relationship with yield that associated with drought tolerance and determining the genetic variability among the wheat cultivars belonging to different geographical areas of Kurdistan region in which Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis will be performed.

    2013-2014 research work included screening of 15 bread wheat cultivars under field condition that have been grown in in Kurdistan region collected from the agricultural research centers of the three governorates Hawler, Sulaimany and Duhok, depending on various morphological, physiological and biochemical parameters.

    2014-215 research work included four separate glass house experiments for testing the strength of tolerance of the cultivars to drought stress by testing the two levels of water stress sever and moderate. On the other hand determining the most sensitive growth stage to drought stress.

    Multi-residue analysis of pharmaceuticals and pesticides in the environment using different analytical methods

     The residue of pharmaceuticals and pesticides is important issue for food quality control and also for the environmental monitoring. The presence and the residue of pharmaceuticals and pesticides in the environment generally results from human and veterinary excretion of unmetabolized drugs and pesticides passing into sewage systems and subsequent discharge of sewage effluents. Among variety of pharmaceuticals, the antibiotics are of special importance due to their extensive use in human therapy and veterinary medicine, as well as in promoting the growth of animals in livestock production.

     Agrochemicals (e.g. pharmaceuticals and pesticides) have importance in agriculture but may also harmful for the human health and safety of mammals due to their persistence and toxic nature. Among variety of pharmaceuticals, the antibiotics are of special importance due to their extensive use in human therapy and veterinary medicine, as well as in promoting the growth of animals in livestock production.

    All food items produced in or imported into Kurdistan are required to meet the standards established by this law. If pharmaceuticals or pesticide residues in any food items exceed these standards, then the distribution and sale of the food is prohibited. 

    To accurately monitor pharmaceuticals and pesticide residues, a high throughput multi-residue screening method that can quantities a large number of pharmaceuticals and pesticide residues during a single analytical run is needed.

    Outline of the Project

     Food safety concerns are on the rise amongst consumers worldwide. In 2006, sweeping changes were made to the Food Hygiene Law in Japan regarding residues of agricultural chemicals, including pesticides, in foods. As a result, standard residue values were established for approximately 800 pesticides.

    The residue of pharmaceuticals is important issue for food quality control and also for the environmental monitoring. It is banned for use in food-producing animals and has very limited use in human medicine, because of its severe impact on human health.

     There are numerous types of pesticides regularly used in the agricultural industry, including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and growth regulators. The same thing is for the different types of pharmaceuticals. Because each type has different physicochemical properties, there are limitations on simultaneous analysis. There are different analytical methods and techniques, among these spectrophotometric methods and GC/MS can analyze approximately 300 compounds. The superior selectivity of this technique allows interference-free quantification, and provides positive confirmation of various pesticides and pharmaceuticals in a single analytical run.

     Present work

    The present work describes a simple and rapid analytical method for simultaneous determination of three veterinary antibiotics residue in muscle, liver, skin, egg of chicken, and determination of multipesticide residue in cucumber and tomato. The analytes are purified by solid phase extraction and quantified by derivative spectrophotometry  and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
