Activities of the Legal Clinic 2015-2016

Below is a brief of activities of the Legal Clinic, College of Law and Political Sciences, Salahaddin University-Erbil.

 Training Courses and Seminars:

A training course and seminars were organised by the Legal Clinic staff of the College of Law and Political Sciences, Salahaddin University-Erbil for developing and raising legal awareness among the law students.

1- On 14th of November 2015, a seminar titled (introducingpracticing the profession of lawyer and its morals) presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant Assistant Lect. (Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) for students of the department of Law in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.

2- The manager of the Legal Clinic (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) presented a seminar titled (Procedures of Litigation in family law cases from POA to Appeal/ from A to Z and the kinds of divorce) for Law students of the College of Law and Political Sciences on 21th of November 2014 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.

3- A seminar presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) on (The ability and proficiency oflawyerto defendhis client) for students of the department of Law in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences on 5th of December 2015.

4- The manager of the Legal Clinic (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) presented a seminar titled (Procedures of Litigation from POA to Appeal/ from A to Z) for Law students of the College of Law and Political Sciences on 12th of December 2015 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.

  

Activities of the Legal Clinic 2014-2015

 

Below is a brief of activities of the Legal Clinic, College of Law and Political Sciences, Salahaddin University in cooperation and support of the USAID Iraq/ Access to Justice Program.

First: Participating in Workshops and Training Courses:

  • The staff of Legal Clinic on 23rd of October 2014 and 23rd December 2014 at 10 AM in Darin Plaza Hotel in Erbil participated in a meeting held by the USAID Iraq/ Access to Justice Program for the deans of all law schools in Kurdistan regarding training (The Best Practice) for law schools.
  • The meeting was supervised by the representative of the Ministry of Higher Education of Kurdistan (MOHE) and the Director of Curriculum Development in the MOHE. The purpose of the meeting was about how to manage Legal Clinics and to strength and develop the practical side of the students’ life in the law schools in Kurdistan.

  • Under supervision of the USAID Iraq/ Access to Justice Program on 21st and 22nd of October 2014 at 10 AM in Darin Plaza Hotel in Erbil, the Legal Clinic staff including the manager, consultants, lawyers, accountant and administrative staff of the Clinic participated in a training course about how to manage the clinic and its different activities properly. The course was lasted for two days/ 6 hours per day.
  • Second: Seminars held by the Legal Clinic:

  • On 16th of December 2014, a seminar titled (An Overview on the Legal Clinic) presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed),and the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed) for the academic staff of the department of Law and Political Sciences in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • The Legal Clinic invited (Major-General Dler Ako) an expert in evidence of criminal offences, to deliver a presentation on (Proof ofEvidenceinCriminalLaw) for Law students on 11th of April 2014 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • Under supervision of the Legal Clinic on 3rd of May 2015, (Assistant Prof. Kawan Ismael) and (Dr. Ahmed Sayda) presented a seminar on(PracticalAaspectsofCivilLawProceedings) for Law students in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • The manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer ( Omed Abdulsalam) presented a seminar titled ( introducing the Legal Clinic, its role, duties and activities) for staff and employees of the College of Law and Political Sciences on 11th of June 2015 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • Third: Training Seminars for Students (15) hours:

  • On 6th of December 2014, a seminar titled (introducingpracticing lawyer and its morals) presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer ( Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) for students of the department of Law in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • The manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Omed Abdulsalam) presented a seminar titled (Procedures of Litigation from POA to Appeal/ from A to Z) for Law students of the College of Law and Political Sciences on 13th of December 2014 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • A seminar presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer ( Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) on (The ability and proficiency oflawyerto defendhis client) for students of the department of Law in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences on 20th of December 2014.
  • The manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin) presented a seminar titled (Rights and Duties of Lawyer) for Law students of the College of Law and Political Sciences on 15th of January 2015 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • On 25th of January 2015, a seminar on (How to Fill Forms and Applications related to the Legal Services provided by the Legal Clinic to Vulnerable Groups ) presented by the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyer (Omed Abdulsalam) for students of the department of Law in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.
  • Fourth: Visiting High Schools within Law-Street Program:

  • In order to raise legal awareness and legal culture in community, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir), administrative staff (Sarbast Najmalddinn) and (Ismael Aziz) and (Group A) of Law Students visited (Mohammed Majdi Preparatory School) on 3rd of February 2015 at (11 AM). Each student presented an hour seminar about (Introducing the Legal Clinic and its Duties, Activities, Aims as well as explaining some basic concepts of Human Rights) for pupils of the School.
  •       In order to raise legal awareness and legal culture in community, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir), administrative staff (Sarbast Najmalddinn) and (Ismael Aziz) and (Group B) of Law Students visited (Zozan Preparatory School for Girls) on 31st of March 2015 at (11 AM). Each student presented an hour seminar about (Introducing the Legal Clinic and its Duties, Activities, Aims as well as explaining some basic concepts of Human Rights) for pupils of the School. At the end of the seminar brochures and leaflets of the Legal Clinic were distributed among pupils and teachers.
  • In order to raise legal awareness and legal culture in community, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir), administrative staff (Sarbast Najmalddinn) and (Ismael Aziz) and (Group C) of Law Students visited (Ahmed Khany Preparatory School) on 31st of March 2015 at (1:30 PM). Each student presented an hour seminar about (Introducing the Legal Clinic and its Duties, Activities, Aims as well as explaining some basic concepts of Human Rights) for pupils of the School. At the end of the seminar brochures and leaflets of the Legal Clinic were distributed among pupils and teachers.
  • In order to raise legal awareness and legal culture in community, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir), administrative staff (Sarbast Najmalddinn) and (Ismael Aziz) and (Group D) of Law Students visited (Zheen Preparatory School) on 14th of April 2015 at (11 AM). Each student presented an hour seminar about (Introducing the Legal Clinic and its Duties, Activities, Aims as well as explaining some basic concepts of Human Rights) for pupils of the School. At the end of the seminar brochures and leaflets of the Legal Clinic were distributed among pupils and teachers.
  • In order to raise legal awareness and legal culture in community, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir), administrative staff (Sarbast Najmalddinn) and (Ismael Aziz) and (Group D) of Law Students visited (Wan Preparatory School) on 14th of April 2015 at (1:30 PM). Each student presented an hour seminar about (Introducing the Legal Clinic and its Duties, Activities, Aims as well as explaining some basic concepts of Human Rights) for pupils of the School. At the end of the seminar brochures and leaflets of the Legal Clinic were distributed among pupils and teachers.
  • Other Activities of the Legal Clinic:

  • On 29th of December 2014 at (11 AM), the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed) hosted by (Rudaw) radio within (Mizhar) program where he Introduced the Legal Clinic, its Duties, Activities and Aims. The program lasted for two hours where some phone calls were made regarding the Legal Clinic and all questions were answered by the manager of the Legal Clinic.
  • Within the Legal Clinics activities and under the supervision of the Legal Clinic staff, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed), the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali Qadir) and the Legal Clinic’s lawyers (Bestoon Taha Hamadamin and Omed Abdulsalam) Law students visited the Court of Erbil on 4th of March 2015, to familiarise students with the procedures of legal petition, different stages of lawsuit and process of litigation in a court of law.
  • Distributing of nearly 500 posters and 2000 brochures in different locations in Erbil City including Schools and Colleges. The posters and brochures were introducing the Legal Clinic including its address, web-page, phone number of the clinic in order to reach the vulnerable groups easily and facilitate their seeking legal aids and consultants.
  • To strength the relationship between the Legal Clinic and the NGOs, the manager of the Legal Clinic (Assistant Prof. Sangar Dawd Mohamed) and the Legal Clinic’s consultant (Dr. Mohamed Sabah Saeed) visited (Women’s Capacity Building Organisation) on 5th of April 2015 and were warmly welcomed by (Sozan Aref), the manager of the organisation. They drafted and signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate, exchange and refer cases to each other in order to protect the rights of women within the community.
  • On the initiative of the manager of the Legal Clinic, ,the Ministry of Higher Education agreed that the Legal Clinic shall be considered as an administrative unit within the administrative structure of the College of Law and Political Sciences by an official order No: 26334 on 14th of December 2014. Also an official order issued by the presidency of Salahaddin University No: 1/1/16529 on 17th of December 2014 and an administrative order issued by the College of Law and Political Sciences No: 2/2/2470 on 22nd of December 2014.

    Seminar

    Within the activities of the Legal Clinic, College of Law and Political Sciences, Salahaddin University-Erbil and under the supervision of the Legal Clinic staff: (D. Mohammed Sabah, the Manager of the Legal Clinic), (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali, the legal consultant of the Legal Clinic) and other administrative staffs, a seminar organised for (professor Rizgar Muhamed Qadir ) under the title of (Electronic Crimes) on Tuesday 16th of February 2016 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.

    Firstly, the professor talked about the relation between technology and crime. Then, he explored in deep the computer crimes and its background history. However, he did shed some light on the characteristics and classification of the computer crimes. Finally, he explained the new updates of investigations in computer crimes in nowadays. At the end of the seminar the audience had the chance to ask their questions and concerns about the subjects of the seminar.

     

    Training Course

    Within the activities of the Legal Clinic, College of Law and Political Sciences, Salahaddin University-Erbil and under the supervision of the Legal Clinic staff: (D. Mohammed Sabah) the Manager of the Legal Clinic, (Assistant Lect. Amanj Ali) the legal consultant of the Legal Clinic and other administrative staffs, a training course organised on Saturday 13th of February 2016 in Madraj hall, College of Law and Political Sciences.

    The course titled (familiarising students with the investigations of the Directorate of Counter Crimes/Erbil). It was delivered by (Brigadier. Yusof Abdula) the director of the Directorate of Counter Crimes/Erbil and (Colonel. Sulaiman Muhammed Amin) an officer in the Directorate of Counter Crimes/Erbil.

    In the first session of the course (Brigadier. Yusof Abdula) briefly talked about the form, role, functions and activities of the Directorate of Counter Crimes/Erbil. Then, he explained the procedures and actions that his directorate takes in to account to counter crimes. On the other hand, in the second session of thecourse (Colonel. Sulaiman Muhammed Amin) talked about the importance of protecting and maintaining the crime scene where forensic evidence can be gathered. Such evidence will be used to know how the offense has been committed and possibly may lead to revealing the criminal.
