Civil Engineering Department
College of Engineering started with the Civil Engineering Department only in the academic year 1968-1969 in Suleimania city of Iraqi Kurdistan, during the same year a total of (44) students were registired. Civil Engineering Department offers a four years B.Sc in engineering. Postgraduate studies of two years (M.Sc) in diffrent fields of Civil Engineering (Structurs, Hydraulics, and Highways) commenced in the academic year 1976-1977. Postgraduate studies extended leading to Ph.D degree in Structural Engineering..
Electrical Engineering Department
Electrical Engineering Department established on the academic year 1973 - 1974 as the second department of the college. It consists of two main branches (1- Power and Machines , 2- Electronics and Communication ) Electrical Engineering Department offers a four years B.Sc engineering science. Postgraduate studies of two-years (M.Sc) in many fields of electrical engineering are commenced till now. The department includes many electrical laboratories which supports the theoretical studies, besides it has a good computer center for the computer applications of the postgraduate, undergraduate studies and staff researches. The present intake of students is 60 per year. The department is planning to have its own power Electronics laboratory for the next semester scheme. Work is in progress in that regard.
Mechanical Engineering Department
Mechanical Engineering Department established in 1986. In the academic year 1987-1988 the students were audited in the department for the first year, and the first group of studentsgraduated in the department in the academic year 1990-1991 they got B.Sc degree in general Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate Studies leading to (M.Se) and (Ph.D) are going on in the department. The department is participating in conducting many work-shops and training courses for the local engineers. The Present intake is 60 students. The department has all the infrastructural facilities that are necessary to impact quality education as per the the academic requirements of the College of Engineering. Well qualified and experienced teaching staff guide students in research and help them in developing good skills.
Mission Statement of Mechanical Department
The mechanical engineering department delivers an educational program of study that prepares its graduates to become intellectual leaders in industry, government, and academia. Graduates of our programs are grounded in scientific, mathematical, and technical knowledge through coursework that keeps a fast pace with current relevant technologies. Moreover, they have ability to analyze, synthesize, and design engineering systems through their immersion in the problem-based activities via University Research; and, by means of general education courses, they have enhanced their ability to communicate and have acquired an understanding and appreciation for other areas of human intellectual achievement.
Objectives and Outcomes of Mechanical Engineering Department
Graduates of the program will have a professional and scientific education that allows them to be successful as career engineers and in the most demanding graduate programs. The following points are the main goals of the Department:-
- To understand and apply concepts of basic science, mathematics, computation, and engineering science essential to professional practice.
- To design of experiments, in proper instrumentation methods, in the techniques of modern data acquisition and in methods of data interpretation.
- To develop those skills essential to design process, including problem formation, synthesis, construction and testing and/or evaluation.
- To enhance those talents that are necessary for effective professional interaction, including multi disciplinary collaboration, successful oral communication and effective writing.
- To encourage an understanding of technology within a global/societal context, the need for continued professional development, the importance of professional development, the importance of professional responsibility and the ethics of professional practice.
- To prepare students for long-life learning and continuous education.
Candidates for the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering must pass the four years of studying in applications of Mechanic’s, Basic sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. Students must consult with their head of faculty to determine appropriate courses.
All mechanical engineering students must have their schedule course book reviewed, approved, and signed by their lecturer each semester. Any deviation from an approved course schedule may delay graduation.
Architectural Engineering Department
Architectural Department has been established in the academic year 1993- 1994, and it has until now five years graduators. The graduators from this department after a five-year study get B.Sc. degree and as an architect, they serve the community. The staff at the department are holding M.Sc. and Ph.D.degrees with a wide range of specializations, scientific degrees, and knowledge. Also a number of engineers and employees are working in the department together with the teachers. Now a project for a new department building with a number of classes (both theoretical and practical), laboratories, and drawing halls are considered. The five years course leading to Bachelor of Architecture degree commenced, during 1993-1994 academic year with an approved intake of 15 students. Presently it has (124) students, (12) teaching staff. Despite its recent beginning the department has carried a niche for itself in the field of Architectural education in Kurdistan.
Software and Informatics Engineering Department Building
The department established in 2000 with accepting just 20 students. the Engineering College was the first college to start this prestigious branch. The number of students gradually increased year by year, so now we have over 200 students for BSc. courses. In 2002 the department has started to open high diploma courses, afterwards in 2006 MSc. courses started to be given to postgraduate students.
The department act as a dynamic research department, drawing skilled researchers from the region and reacting swiftly to the changing technological landscape. Some 15 researchers are currently working within the department, including academic staff, research staff, and research students. A part of these research activities, the department has a well-known annual fair named SEDAF.
Software Engineering Department Fair-SEDAF
The exhibition aims to focus attention on the extensive research activities undertaken within the software and to give our students the opportunity to present their project to the Kurdistan’s community. The entire projects are designed and proposed for both private and public sectors use, and hence the government institutions in particular will get benefit in implementing these projects in order to provide services to the citizens effectively and efficiently.
There are different professional software projects for presentation in the exhibition along with various posters every year. The projects are more feasible for KRG’s institutions.
